Misa criolla
On BBC Radio 4's
Desert Island Discs this week it was the turn of thriller author
Jack Higgins to choose his 10 recordings. On the whole I loved his choices, but in particular one was stunning. Although I have long been aware of
Misa Criolla by Ramirez, and loved the rhythms of the Gloria section, Higgins' chosen recording was exceptional. I had to check out the full details on the Beeb's website. The lead singer was
Mercedes Sosa whose wild tones against the insistent chorus were amazing. This religious music is a little heady to say the least.
