Woken by magpies
Don't know what they were up to, but
magpies were calling loudly at about 5am this morning. They were also crawling around the window, perhaps perching on the bay to make their crakeing sound. Noisy beggars. And they're still at it now, at 2pm. Not near our windows, but calling up and down the gardens, making the blackbirds sound out warning chatter. Don't know what's going on - perhaps it's to do with the persistent rain at the moment ...

I love to watch the magpies at this time of year. The youngsters are learning how to do everything without being murderous, and they do make a heck of a noise. I bet it's the younguns (S Yorks expression) playing that you can hear - they'll be shouting and so will their parents so they can all hear each other.
Ah, youngsters. That makes sense; I saw a rather straggly, skinny looking magpie sitting on next door's greenhouse.
We have magpies and blackbirds, too. The blackbirds love to chase neightbour's cat - they really could teach a fighter jet pilot a few things. :)
No magpies at my window, but I've got plenty of other LOUD birds.
By all accounts, the chirping of birds is supposed to be soothing and pleasant, but an incessant trill can be really, really annoying when one is trying to write.
